How to improve the poor lubrication of starter bearing

Time:2021-7-16Hits:

In normal use, the starter bearing (commonly known as copper sleeve) often has loose journal and copper sleeve due to excessive wear, which will eventually affect the service performance of the starter. There are two main reasons why the copper sleeve of starter is easy to wear:
First, it bears a large load, which is an unalterable reality;
Second, poor lubrication, which can be improved. The lubrication of starter copper sleeve and armature shaft journal is mostly applied with some grease during disassembly and maintenance. Generally, the starter cannot be lubricated without disassembly in normal use. When the starter is working, the outer circular surface of the journal is in contact with the inner four sides of the copper sleeve, which extrudes part of the grease out of the friction surface, so as to accelerate the consumption of grease, resulting in the dry friction between the journal and the copper sleeve when the starter is working, which intensifies the wear of both. Therefore, two oil grooves with depth of about 0.8mm and width of about 1.5mm are cut on the inner circular surface of the copper sleeve in the test. When the starter is overhauled, the groove is coated with lubricating grease and then reassembled. Through operation test, it not only achieves the purpose of long-term lubrication, but also reduces the wear of journal and copper sleeve.
