Metal face seal

SKF metal face seal hddf is used in low circumferential speed and severe operating conditions. They reliably prevent the invasion of solid and liquid pollutants, while maintaining lubricants and preventing leakage. Originally developed for off-road and rail vehicles, these seals are now found to be equally suitable for a range of other applications that effectively protect against the entry of sand, soil, water, etc.

Design features:
The hddf seal consists of two identical metal sealing rings and two similar special belleville washers (cup springs) made of nitrile rubber or fluororubber. The sealing ring is made of wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant alloy cast iron and has finely machined sliding and sealing surfaces.
NBR or Viton Belleville gaskets provide a consistent preload and effective seal between the cavity and the outside diameter of the seal. The outer diameter of the gasket is suitable for the structure of its installation groove. It is critical that the hole diameter and depth be consistent with the dimensions listed in the product table. In order to ensure proper sealing performance, the proper tolerance of the seal and its mating parts is very critical.
Lubrication requirements:
The dynamic sealing surface of metal face seal shall be coated with lubricant to prevent scratches, and the lubricant shall cover at least 30% of the sealing surface to ensure proper lubrication and cooling of the sealing ring. Depending on the ambient temperature, the lubricant can be engine oil (such as SAE 10w-40) or mineral oil in the range of 10wt ~ 90wt. It should be noted that some oils contain additives that make them incompatible with rubber, which can lead to the degradation of Belleville gasket performance, especially when it is subjected to high temperature.
Although mineral oil has always been the recommended lubricant, grease lubricant can also be used in some slow rotation or swing applications, where the surface speed of the sealing surface does not exceed 0.5 m / S (100 ft / min). For higher speed applications, oil lubricant is required, which can not only lubricate the sealing surface, but also cool the sealing ring.
